What is a Psychological Assessment?
Psychological assessment is the administration of psychological testing by a highly-trained psychologist. A psychological assessment (also called a psychological evaluation) consists of clinical interviews and a comprehensive battery of tests to gain a better understanding of how a person functions.
This can include examining an individual's knowledge, skills, emotional and behavioral patterns, and personality functions to help answer a variety of questions. This information is used to determine if an individual meets criteria for a specific diagnosis and helps generate treatment recommendations to help individuals improve their functioning.
What testing instruments do you use?
A test battery is selected for each individual based on the reported problem areas. Some of the possible areas these measures can evaluate include cognitive abilities, academic abilities, personality, behavioral functioning, attentional abilities, and emotional functioning.
I will openly share my exact assessment protocol to any prospective client so that you can be an informed consumer.
How it works
I provide psychological asessments for ages 10 and up. The entire process is typically divided up into 3 appointments:
- 1st appointment - Consists of a diagnostic interview to go over concerns and get a full psycho-social history. This appointment usually lasts 60 minutes. Parents might be sent home with some questionnaires for the child's teacher (if applicable) and parent to fill out.
- 2nd appointment - Consists of testing and completed questionnaires will be collected. This appointment can last 2-4 hours depending on the age of the individual and amount of testing needed. Please note, this appointment has to be completed in person.
- 3rd appointment - Consists of a feedback session where I meet with you 10 business days after the 2nd appointment to discuss the results, recommendations, and provide a copy of the report.
